Snowden's secrets are over?

The term of permission for a temporary stay in Russia of Edward Snowden is expiring. A former US National Security Agency contractor fled from his country, where he was accused of disclosing secret information. In early June 2013, Snowden handed over to the Gardian and Washington Post to the secret information regarding the surveillance of the American special services over the information communications of citizens of several states. After the US authorities cancel the identity of Edward Snowden and his unsuccessful attempts to get to the countries where he would about to get political asylum, Snowden spent several weeks in the transit zone of the Moscow Airport Sheremetyevo. On August 1, 2013, the fugitive received an official residence permit in Russia during the year.

Edward Snowden submitted documents to extend his stay in Russia. The media learned about this from his lawyer Anatoly Kucheren. “We prepared and handed over a set of documents for a temporary asylum,” Kuchena told reporters. In the near future, the Federal Migration Service must decide.

The current news associated with the name Snowden look pretty faded in comparison with the increased attention that the former employee of the American intelligence services used to be used a year ago. However, the ex-deputy of the State Duma Gennady Gudkov believes that the effect of the scandal has passed, but they did not forget about Edward Snowden.

- He continues to surprise the world. According to his statements, scandals continue to occur, including political ones. I do not think that he was forgotten. Another question is that its presence in Russia was exclusively fantastic in nature. The attention of the media was riveted to his person. But here the effect of novelty and unusual situation worked. Now everyone understands that Snowden itself. He leads his own game. He continues to expose the special services. He continues to give information, which then is quite widely discussed by all the media. It seems to me that he has something in his tanning man in order to recall himself more than once.

Political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky has no doubt that the certain merits of Edward Snowden before Russia will be the reason for extending his temporary asylum.

- Edward Snowden is a very remarkable figure. In my opinion, vanity moved to his exploits, the desire to be at the center of global attention at the expense of those secret documents that accidentally found themselves in his hands. This is a fairly common world plot, which, as a rule, ends very badly for the situational and temporary hero of the plot, which, in this case, is Edward Snowden. I think that Vladimir Putin owes Snowden in his own way, because it was Snowden who opened his eye to the Russian president to the technical capabilities of the US intelligence services to listen to telephone conversations in the room. I think that in the events in Ukraine there is also a share of Snowden, because Putin was convinced that he has no secrets from the United States, and since he has no secrets from the United States, then you can act without looking at this consideration. But at the same time, Snowden, being disconnected from the main source of his glory - documents and archives of the US National Security Agency, ceased to be of interest to the whole world. A year ago, I said that around this time Snowden would be in a psychological crisis, associated precisely with the fact that firewood ended for the fire for his vanity. So it is happening now. Although, I think that certain moral obligations of the Russian authorities to him will still encourage our country to extend his refuge.

The story of Snowden had an international resonance for two reasons. Firstly, the disclosed information showed that the NSA is spying and those whom the United States is called its allies. Among those who, according to Snowden, were in the view of the US intelligence, there were, for example, the first persons of Germany, Spain, and Brazil. Secondly, Vladimir Putin’s decision to “hide” Snowden in Russia was interpreted as provocative in relation to the United States and other Western countries, believed that Edward Snowden should face trial.

Gennady Gudkov, who for a long time was the deputy chairman of the Security Committee of the Russian State Duma, finds it difficult to answer with which sign - plus or minus - you can evaluate what Snowden did.

-The fact is that the state should have some secrets. For example, I am an opponent of the full openness of state policy. This cannot be. If state policy is completely discovered, then the states will be very seriously lost and this will lead to serious consequences. On the other hand, the excessive closeness of the state, double standards, falsity, lies, when they become too large -scale, is also very bad. Snowden, I believe, to a certain extent, an ideological fighter with this closeness of states, which, in my opinion, can be put in a plus, but with a well -known reservation. When something is too much, a negative effect is formed. Of course, any state should have the right to have its own secrets. And not very good when these secrets become the property of the general public. Therefore, it is probably necessary to expose in cases where a lie is not in salvation, but to the detriment.

The Russian government, of course, used the information provided by Edward Snowden in the international game, said political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky, however, in his opinion, this cannot last long.

- I think that the Russian state used it fully. Firstly, Vladimir Putin himself, it seems to me, is deeply plowed by a certain amount of information received from Snowden. On the other hand, these documents were used in order to make a certain split between the USA and the EU, in particular, we are talking about the story of listening to the chancellor Angel Merkel and some other subjects that sowed grains of doubts about Euro -Atlantic unity. But any failed spy is interesting to a certain limit. When the source of secret data runs out, interest in the spy is also exhausted. And, apparently, Edward Snowden did not present other important arguments in favor of the titanic significance of his own personality over the past year either to his sympathizers or his opponents.

Gennady Gudkov also agrees with Stanislav Belkovsky. However, in his opinion, it is too early to put the point in a large game with Edward Snowden.
