The Spassky Gate was opened for tourists

Today, August 4, for the first time in many years, the gates of the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin opened for tourists.

Until now, the Spasskaya Tower was closed for the passage of visitors, her gate was opened only for the president who arrived at the inauguration, and once a year, in December, a Christmas tree stopped through them in the Kremlin.

According to Interfax in the Kremlin’s commandant’s office, now visitors who enter the Kremlin from the Kutafia tower can pass through its entire territory and go out on the other side to Red Square.

Now tourists can leave the Kremlin through a service passage located next to the gates of the Spasskaya Tower. The commandant’s office noted that if the flow of visitors in the direction of Red Square increases, the opportunity to open the gates of the tower for people will be examined.

For several decades, tourists did not have the opportunity to get into this part of the Kremlin, the free passage through its territory was limited to the Upper Tynitsky Garden. From this place to the Spasskaya tower, the passage was closed for tourists, only Kremlin officials were passed here.

At the end of last week, President Vladimir Putin suggested opening the gates of the Spasskaya Tower for tourists during a meeting with Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin, Kremlin commandant Sergei Khlebnikov and architects. Putin also expressed the idea to make out the 14th Corps of the Kremlin built in the 1930s, and restore the monasteries demolished in its place in its place.
