The Museum of the First World War opened near St. Petersburg

Today, August 4, in Tsarskoye Selo near St. Petersburg, the Museum “Russia in the Great War” was opened for visitors to visitors - the first large museum in our country, dedicated to the events and heroes of the First World War.

“We want to write a popular science book with the language of things,” said Georgy Vvedensky, head of the military history department of the State Museum of the State Museum of the State Museum-Reserve, ITAS-TASS . “This will be a cognitive museum, which will show primarily the new one that appeared during this war, for example, that for the first time, air and underwater forces participated in hostilities.”

The exposition will be located in the Sovereign Staff, where the museum was planned to be placed under Nicholas II, in 1911, when the representative of the family of famous philanthropists Tretyakov handed the emperor a collection of materials and documents on the history of Russian wars.

The first exposition of the museum was formed in 1917, after the February Revolution it was decided to make the museum of the people, in which it lasted about a year, after which it was closed, its exhibits were taken out, some of them were transferred to other state storage facilities, some were lost.

Since 2011, a restoration has been restored for the reconstruction of the museum in the Rating Chamber, for which 292 million rubles were allocated from the federal budget. The building in the pseudo -Russian style, built in 1913-1914, was completely repaired and adapted for museum use. During the restoration work, experts were guided by ancient photographs and preserved samples of architectural details, so the historical appearance of the building was completely preserved.

In the collection of the new museum, about two thousand subjects telling about Russia's participation in the First World War - weapons, uniforms, awards, photographs, documents. “About two-thirds of our exhibits came to us from philanthropists and private donors both from Russia and abroad,” Vvedensky said.
