The leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan during a meeting in Sochi discussed the solution to the problem of Nagorno -Karabakh. On the eve of Putin met separately with the President of Azerbaijan Aliyev and President of Armenia Sargsyan, and in the evening all three visited the Sambo tournament. According to the results of the Sunday meeting, the parties stated that the Karabakh conflict could only be regulated peacefully. But at the same time, even in the part open to the press, mutual claims were made.

“I am happy to state that the president of Azerbaijan drew attention to the need to solve the problem peacefully, and you (Armenian President Serge Sargsyan) have been said about this now. This is, in fact, the most important thing, because there is no greater tragedy than the death of people,” Putin quotes Putin Interfax . According to the head of the Russian state, it is necessary to proceed from the fact that the conflict situation around Karabakh has long developed and "got us from the heritage of the Soviet Union."

He called on the parties to the conflict "to show patience, wisdom, respect for each other in order to find this decision." Putin believes that "any difficult situations can be allowed if there is good will, but it seems to me that such good will from the Azerbaijani people, as well as the Armenian people, exists."

As the President of Russia noted, despite the fact that there are international formats for solving regional problems, including the Karabakh problem, it is necessary to take advantage of the opportunity that the historical ties of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan give.

In turn, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev recalled that "the UN adopted four resolutions requiring an immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian occupation forces from the territory of Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, these resolutions remained on paper for more than 20 years."

Sargsyan, in turn, wondered whether Azerbaijan complied with the requirements imposed on him by UN resolutions. "The Azerbaijani side all the time referring to the four UN resolutions. Such a rhetorical question to Mr. Aliyev: and what is the point of these resolutions Azerbaijan fulfilled?" - asked the president of Armenia. He stated that Armenia had fulfilled the requirements, used its influence in order for no hostilities.

Sargsyan also recalled that in the 1990s the parties came to the conclusion that the conflict has no military decision. “And if we blame each other again, I think that for a long time the conflict will not be resolved,” the Armenian leader noted.

After that, the Armenian leader said that he was grateful to Aliyev for "that you are configured to resolve this issue."
