The presidential election ended in Turkey

In Turkey, voting in the presidential election ended. Currently, polling stations are closed, votes are counted, RIA Novosti reports.

The highest election commission decided to hold the elections on August 10 from 09.00 to 18.00 Moscow time. 52.9 million voters were supposed to take part in them. In total, more than 165 thousand sites opened in Turkey.

The applicants for the presidency were the current Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Ecmeeleddin Ihsanoglu and Selahattin Demirtash. To win, the candidate needs to gain 50% plus one vote. If this does not happen, then the second round will be held on August 24.

It is noted that the presidential election was the first in the history of Turkey.
