On the night of August 12 to 13, the Maximum Stream Perseids will reach the maximum, which annually visits the surroundings of the Earth from July 17 to August 24. Unfortunately, astronomy lovers, this year the maximum flow activity coincides with the full moon period, which will prevent the observations of meteors in the night sky. However, the most striking meteors will nevertheless be visible, especially outside the city where the light pollution of the sky is not so much. After midnight, it will be possible to observe flying meteors every few minutes. A large number of meteors will be marked in the sky and in the next two nights.
In medieval Europe, this meteor stream was known under the name “The Tears of St. Lawrence”, since the days of the appearance of Perseid coincide with the day when the martyrdom of this saint (August 10) is celebrated, which, according to legend, was frightened by the Romans on the iron grill. In Bulgaria, the legend was recorded that the especially strong “streams of stars” were in front of the 1885 Serbian-Bulgarian war. It is associated with a widespread believe that the "fall of a star" portends death.
