Intel Corporation has unveiled the details of the project of the production of new generation processors, known under the code name Intel Core M and made on the Broadwell microprocessor architecture, the Vedomosti newspaper writes.
It is expected that Core M processors will appear on the market for the New Year. Basically, these chips will be installed on tablets and other portable devices that do not have special cooling systems. However, Intel believes that over time, this technology will find use in a variety of products, including powerful servers and desktop computers.
According to the Vice President of Intel Rani Borkar, the Core M microprocessors with half the thickness compared to previous models will be processed 7 times faster, the usual calculations are twice as fast as possible, and they will spend two times less electricity.
The new technological process of the production of chips allows you to reduce the size of the microcircuit element to 14 nanometers. As a result, more transistors can be placed on the same area by increasing the computing power of the processor.
Until now, Intel’s successes in the smartphone market and tablets have been quite modest, but the characteristics of Core M processors allow you to count on a significant increase in the market share of the corporation. So, Intel General Director Brian Krzanich believes that the number of Intel chips sold this year can be 40 million.
