Died movie documentary Sergey Medynsky

The classic of domestic movie documentary, professor at the Department of Operations of VGIK Sergey Medynsky died in Moscow at the age of 92 years.

This was reported by Interfax with reference to the Union of Cinematographers of the Russian Federation.

Sergey Evgenievich Medynsky was born in 1922 in Yekaterinburg, in 1940 he entered the Moscow Libknecht Moscow Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of Russian Language and Literature.

After the outbreak of war, the university was evacuated, Medynsky remained in Moscow, from 1941 to 1943 he worked in the Krasnaya Star newspaper as a photographer. In 1943, he volunteered for the front and fought until victory, awarded military orders and medals.

At the end of 1945, Medynsky entered the VGIK. In 1950, having graduated from the faculty, he received an offer from the famous documentary operator Roman Carmen to become his assistant. Thus formed the famous tandem of Carmen-Medynsky, who later made the films “The Tale of the Oilmen of the Caspian” (1953) and “The conquerors of the sea” (1959).

Since 1970, Medynsky has been the chief operator of the Creative Association "Screen" of Central Television. Since 1973, he taught at VGIK, in 1996-2002 he headed the Department of Operations of the Institute for Advanced Studies of TV employees. Author of articles, books on documentary cinema theory and operator skill.
