In St. Petersburg they attacked composer Ilya Demutsky

On Sunday evening, August 17, in the center of St. Petersburg, an attack on composer Ilya Demutsky was attacked. The attacker disappeared, leaving a note in which he suggested Demutsky "to go to his homeland, in the USA."

“Dear friends. They attacked me today. They tried to beat me, but my long legs saved me, there was little blood - I cut my hand deeply, breaking the glass in the front door of the Mariinsky Theater, ”the composer wrote on his Facebook.

“This is a non -accident attack. - he believes. - I was invited to an interview (supposedly Rain TV channel) about the upcoming premiere of the opera New Jerusalem in October <...>. Instead of the film crew, a young man with a stun gun met me, which he did not have time to use (did not reach ...). In a broken window, the attacker threw a note with threats (see photo ). The police were called, everything was recorded. But I don’t know what to do next. ”

Ilya Demutsky (b. 1983) graduated from the Church School. Glinka and the St. Petersburg Conservatory, studied compositions at the Conservatory of San Francisco. Gained fame as the author of the essay for Mezzo-soprano with an orchestra by fragments from the last word at the court of Pussy Riot participants Maria Alekhina. For this work, the composer received the first award at the XIX International Competition of Composers in Bologna.

In addition, Ilya Demutsky composed music for the opening ceremony of the Paralympics in Sochi, the "Great Vespers", based on the canonical texts of the liturgical service.
