Poland nominated a black and white film to Oscar

To represent Poland in the Oscar category "Best Film in a Foreign Language" in 2015 will be the black and white historical drama of Pavel Pavlikovsky "Ida" (IDA).

The film tells the story of the novice of the monastery, before the tonsure of going home and opening a terrible family secret.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , the picture not only received favorable reviews of critics, but also achieved rare successes in the American rental for foreign movies: since May 2014, when Ida reached the screens, its fees in the United States amounted to more than $ 3.6 million.

Pavlikovsky’s picture became one of the most popular Polish films in history: in Europe it raised almost $ 9 million, including $ 3 million in France.

Last year, Ida was recognized as the best film at the London Film Festival, received prizes in Toronto, Warsaw and Wiesbaden, and the work of operators Lukash Zalya and Ryshard Landevsky was awarded the American Society for the Opesters and the International Operational Art Festival in the Bydgoshchi.

In addition, the film was collected by several prizes of the Polish Film Academy, one of which was received by actress Agata Kulesh, who played one of the main roles in the film.
