The ONEXIM group Mikhail Prokhorov discusses with potential buyers the possibility of selling the RBC media holding, which includes several Internet resources, a business newspaper, a magazine, a television channel and a direction of Internet hosting.
According to Kommersant with reference to sources in the market, consultations on this issue began in February and have been going on for several months.
During this time, the proposal was made to almost all the largest owners of Russian media assets, but not one of them is interested in the transaction. Together, Onexim wants to receive more than $ 250 million from the buyer, taking into account the company's debt for about $ 227 million.
Some of the interlocutors associate Mikhail Prokhorov’s desire to leave the project with the end of the active stage of his political career: in December, he lost the post of leader of the Civil Platform party to his sister Irina, who also announced the decision to leave him in July.
Other sources suggest that the reasons are primarily economic-for the development of RBC, additional financing is needed, and Prokhorov is not ready to invest personal funds, preferring to attract a third-party investor, at the same time, possibly retaining some share in the project.
