Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Pavlo Sheremeta has resigned. This information appeared on August 20, and on the morning of August 21 it was confirmed by the Cabinet of Ministers. Sheremeta's statement has already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, UNIAN was told by the government press service. The reasons for the resignation were not given there. The press service of the Ministry of Economic Development also declined to comment on the resignation of the head.

On Facebook, Sheremeta wrote: “Instead of continuing to fight the system, I decided to focus on working with tomorrow’s people who will create tomorrow’s system.”

UNIAN suggests that the reason for the resignation could be the appointment of the government commissioner for European integration Valeriy Pyatnitsky as a trade representative. The government recently decided to create this institution to promote and protect the interests of Ukrainian manufacturers. According to the agency, Sheremeta was not satisfied with this appointment. A little later, he himself explained that he did not agree with Pyatnitsky's candidacy, but with the fact that he was appointed to the post at the rank of deputy minister without the consent of the minister himself. In his opinion, this violates the decree that the candidacies of deputies must be submitted for approval by the minister.

Pavel Sheremeta headed the Ministry of Economic Development on February 27, 2014, when the Rada approved the composition of the government headed by Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
