
China authorities seem to be able to boast of a new formidable weapon soon. According to the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post , Chinese scientists said that they were approaching the creation of a unique submarine capable of moving at supersonic speed.
In their work, researchers used the developments obtained back in the Soviet Union. In particular, they improved technology known as "supercavitation." In the USSR, it was used, inter alia, to increase the speed of torpedoes.
The essence of this technology is that a peculiar air bubble is created around the torpedo, which allows you to easily overcome water resistance. The Soviet Square Soviet Supercaviging Torpedoes created with the help of this method could reach a speed of 370 kilometers per hour, which many times exceeded the maximum speed of ordinary torpedoes.
Chinese scientists have improved the technologies obtained in the USSR. In particular, they managed to solve the problem of managing such objects.
Now, experts have to create a powerful engine that will allow the vessel to move over long distances. While the range of Soviet suprapexes was only 11-15 kilometers, the PRC expects that the future Chinese submarine will be able to overcome distances many times more, for example, from Shanghai to San Francisco, the distance between which is almost 9900 kilometers. Moreover, according to the calculations of scientists, for overcoming such a route, the supersonic apparatus will take less than two hours.
The newspaper notes that in addition to the PRC, developments associated with the effect of supercavitation are engaged in Russia, the USA, Germany and Iran. However, due to the fact that previously such studies were usually military in nature, most of them are still shrouded in a secret.
