The difference is that Waltz is still playing on the side of Hollande, while the less popular Montbourg decided to go on a frontal attack earlier. He, of course, already in 2007 expressed everything he thinks about Hollande ("the only drawback of Segolene Royal is her partner," Montbourg said). However, then Arno simply could not imagine that the quiet Francois would someday become president.

In May 2012, after the victory of Hollande, the lawyer Montbourg changed his mind and entered the government. He repeated this step in April 2014.

Those. Economy Minister Monbourg formally supported Hollande's policy from the very beginning, and after the "social democratic" turn (January 2014). In April, he even agreed to work with "retrogad" and a close friend of the president, Michel Sapan, who headed the budget ministry.

And in July, for the first time, Montbourg openly criticizes the economic policy of the government (without mentioning the name of Hollande), and at the end of August he makes a final break with the ruling elite.

The official reason for the gap is disagreement with the austerity policy. The EU authorities (and Merkel along with them) require France to reduce the budget deficit, which now exceeds 4%, at least by one point in three years. Hollande made such a commitment . Montbourg believes that "reducing the deficit is an aberration and absurdity", so belt-tightening does not lead to economic growth, but only to a decrease in purchasing power. As a result, the voter goes over to the side of the ultra-right, "who want to destroy Europe."

Culture Minister Aurélie Filippetti speaks of the same danger in an open letter to the prime minister and the president (published in Monde on Monday). “Dear François, Monsieur President of the Republic, Dear Manuel, Monsieur Prime Minister, my dear Manuel...,” she begins the letter, and it is clear that it is very difficult for her to part with high-ranking comrades and go into opposition.

But “realism cannot be synonymous with self-denial,” she writes, and refuses to participate in the new government. Minister of Education Amon, who at first declared that he wanted to be, together with Montbourg, the representative of the left wing of the socialist party within the government, changed his mind a day later and did not succumb to Waltz's request to stay.

According to rumors, the former Minister of Justice, Tobira, also wanted to leave. Hollande had to persuade her.

Each had his own reasons for the demarche: Montbourg had a dream of presidency, Amon (probably) had a dream of Montbourg presidency, Filippetti had an excuse to gracefully leave a boring post , Tobir had an old conflict with Prime Minister Waltz.

There are also ideological reasons - and Montbourg, and Amon, and Filippetti advocate the proclamation of the Sixth Republic, in which the parliament will play a decisive role.

But whatever the reasons, the fact that ministers leave en masse for the opposition could be another bad sign both for Hollande and for the Socialist Party, which is growing split.

Since the spring, at least fifty “real socialists” have hatched in the parliamentary majority (291 people), accusing Hollande of betraying left-wing values.

Theoretically, they could not vote for a new cabinet. Which would lead to the dissolution of parliament and the loss of the socialist majority.

As of Tuesday, no one believes that the dissenters will decide to take such a step.

Financial markets met the news of the dissolution of the Cabinet of Ministers with a slight increase.

Nor will the demarche of ministers lead to a change in Hollande's policy. On August 21, the president once again uttered his favorite phrase that he was going to go "even further, even faster." On August 25, Waltz again subscribed to these words.
