HRC asks to verify the death of nine contract intelligence officers at a training ground in the Rostov region

Information about the death of nine soldiers appeared on the website of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society and human rights.

In particular, it is reported that, according to information from HRC members Ella Polyakova and Sergey Krivenko, on August 9 and 11, two incidents occurred at a training ground in the Rostov region, due to which nine fighters (scouts) who served under contract in the 18th motorized rifle brigade allegedly died. The personal data of the military personnel were reported to human rights activists, but in accordance with the current legislation, they cannot be disclosed. According to the Realarmy website (which human rights activists refer to), six of the dead were privates, two were senior and junior sergeants, and one was a lieutenant (group commander).

Members of the Human Rights Council appealed to the Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (VSU Investigative Committee of Russia) with a request to conduct an audit, and if the information is confirmed, to initiate a criminal case into the death of soldiers.

The Armed Forces of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Southern Military District (it is this structure that investigates any incidents in which military personnel of the district appear or which occur on the territory of the Southern Military District) did not comment on this statement by the HRC.

There were no reports of any August incidents in which nine servicemen would have died in the Rostov media. At the same time, earlier the military gave information about incidents that also occur at the Rostov training grounds and in which soldiers died.

So, in February, at the Kadamovsky training ground (Novocherkassk region, a traditional place for exercises of artillery units, motorized rifle units, units with armored vehicles, etc.), one soldier was killed and two were injured during training firing from a grenade launcher.

At the end of July, at the Kuzminki training ground (between Rostov and Taganrog, landing units are training there), a mortar mine exploded: one person died, seven were injured, one of them seriously.

It is known from open sources about the 18th motorized rifle brigade that it is deployed in Khankala. Information about the brigade in connection with the anti-terrorist operations that is currently underway in the east of Ukraine appeared on Ukrainian Internet resources. In particular, two months ago , the Inforesist website reported that it was the soldiers of the 18th motorized rifle brigade who were shelling the city of Dobropolye in the Donetsk region. But when Ukrainian army soldiers discovered them, the Russian servicemen fled, leaving one Grad launcher behind.
