Vladimir Tsypkin writes: “My grandfather, Vladimir Georgievich Tsypkin, was born in Kremenchug in 1893. In the early 1930s, he was sent to Berlin, where he worked at the school for children of diplomats under the Embassy of the USSR. In one of the photos stored in the family album, it is captured during a visit to the school Maxim Gorky. The heroine of Oleg Dorman’s film “Setter” Lilianna Lungin studied at this school. The girl in the foreground in the photo - she, in the background - is my grandfather.

While working in Berlin, my grandfather met the German communist Gertrude Deer, who later became his wife. After returning from Berlin, they lived in Moscow, where in January 1935 they had a son, my father.

But happiness was short -lived: on March 18, 1938, a grandfather, who by that time worked as a senior commodity department in Service for Service, was arrested as a German spy, and in August they were shot on charges of counter -revolutionary activity and espionage in favor of Germany.

Soon my grandmother was arrested as a repressed wife. She went through the Karaganda camps, but her further fate is not known to me. In 1957, the grandfather was rehabilitated for the lack of corpus delicti.

I was named after my grandfather, Vladimir, and I wanted to do at least something to perpetuate his memory. ”
