Participation in the population census in Russia may become mandatory

Rosstat initiated amendments to the legislation that should participate in citizens in all -Russian censuses mandatory, Interfax reports.

The developed draft amendments provides for administrative liability for non -participation in the census. According to the head of Rosstat Alexander Surinov, the amount of a fine for refuseniks can be up to five thousand rubles. In addition, it is planned to introduce responsibility for the provision of infidel information. The developed amendments will also make all -Russian census over the Internet.

The Public Council as a whole supported the initiative to amend the legislation.

Participation in censuses is mandatory in a number of countries, for example, in the USA, Great Britain, France, Japan, China. In Russia, during the latest census in 2010, about one million people refused to participate in it, another 2.6 million people scribes did not find at home. In addition, a significant number of citizens did not answer questions of the questionnaire, in particular, questions about education and sources of livelihood.
