Islamic militants captured an empty American embassy in Tripoli

Radical formations captured and hold the American embassy in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, ITAR-TASS reports with reference to the Arab satellite television channel Al-Armiya.

According to one of the commanders of the militants who were in the diplomatic deposition, the complex was in their hands about a week ago and a month after American employees left him during the evacuation in a neighboring Tunisia.

The embassy was captured shortly after the metropolitan airport, which was held by the militants from the Zintansky Brigade, a loyal disgraced General Khalifa Haftar. It was the Zintans, according to the radicals, who previously occupied the diplomatic complex after the Americans left it. Islamists burned the captured airport.

Due to the sharp exacerbation of the US situation, like many other states, all the diplomatic staff was withdrawn from Libya on July 26. All employees, including marine infantrymen who guarded the mission, were taken out on cars to Tunisia.

In the past, employees of foreign diplomatic agents have repeatedly become targets of armed attacks and found themselves hostage from various groups. The most serious incident occurred on September 11, 2012, when, as a result of an attack on the US diplomatic mission, the ambassador Christopher Stevens and three more Americans died in Bengraz.

In Libya, almost three years after the victory of the so -called revolution on February 17 and the end of the Civil War, which led to the overthrow and murder of the leader of Jamahiria Muammar Gaddafi, the country's authorities, despite all attempts, still cannot restore order. The detachments of former militias, including radical Islamists, who do not obey the center and establish their laws in the territories controlled by them, continue to operate in Libya.

Since mid -July, the armed clashes between the detachments of the radicals, on the one hand, and supporting General Haftar, have not stopped in Tripoli and the second largest city in the city, with army units and formations of ex -revolutionaries on the other. Hundreds of people have already become victims of hassles.
