Iraqi troops broke through the blockade of the city of Ammerley

Iraqi military personnel, with the support of the Shiite militia detachments and Kurdish armed groups of Peshmerga on Sunday, entered the city of Ammerley besieged by militants of the Islamic State.

The operation of the liberation of Ammerley began on Saturday. US military aviation struck the positions of Islamists on the approaches to the city. At the same time, American aircraft dumped humanitarian goods for city residents.

Representatives of the Turkmans community live in Ammerley, most of whom are Shiites. Over the past two months, they were cut off by Islamists from drinking water, food and medicines.

In June, militants of the Extremist group "Islamic State" captured significant territories in the north and west of Iraq.
