
In Vilnius, an outstanding Lithuanian theater and film actor Donatas Banionis died. It is reported by DELFI.LT with reference to the son of the deceased. Banionis was 90 years old. He died in the hospital two days after the stroke.
Banionis was born in Kaunas. In 1944 he graduated from the studio at the theater in Panevyazhis. He worked for the next few decades in this theater, having played more than 100 roles there; In 1980-1988 he was his chief director.
Since 1959, Banionis starred in a movie. Among his most significant film works is Whitecus (“Nobody wanted to die”), Ladens (“Dead Season”), Duke Olbensky (“King Lear”), the title role in the film “Goya, or a difficult path of knowledge”. In 1972, Chris Kelvin played in Solyaris Andrei Tarkovsky.
In most Russian-speaking Banionis films, they duplicated, as he spoke Russian with a strong Lithuanian accent.
