According to the sources of The New Times, the movement of military equipment from Novoazovsk to Mariupol began on the morning of September 4, it took place in two directions: along the new Taganrog - Mariupol highway and the so -called “old tract”. In the area of the Primorsky villages of Shirokino and Berdyanskoye, in the morning of September 4, fights were going on, in the region of 17 o’clock the battle ensued next to the village of Talakovka, a strong cannonade was heard in Mariupol itself.
At the same time, the office of the Governor of the Donetsk region Sergei Taruta correspondent The New Times reported that there was no question of any assault on the part of the DPR, the forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were repulsed by “intelligence of the battle”, during which 4 tanks were destroyed.
A pro-Ukrainian rally was also held on Lenin Square, to which, according to the Taruta press service, up to 8 thousand people came out.
There is no panic in the city, but the New Times correspondent himself watched the forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces left the city - they went towards Zaporozhye.
The New Times correspondent was detained by the DPR for a checkpoint on an “old tract” 13 km from Mariupol, while throughout the highway in the bushes there were tanks, armored personnel carriers and BMP, as well as Ural and KAMAZ trucks for the transportation of personnel. From a couple of dozens of people located on the block of posts, two were unlike ordinary DPR militias - the same masking suits with hoods and Velcro for absent chevrons, accessories such as a radio with a headphone and a microphone, as well as devices for determining the position on the terrain - such equipment for the DPR militia Times did not notice before. In addition, it seems that none of the fighters at the block-post was familiar with Ukrainian documents-when checking the car, the military was at a standstill of the Ukrainian technical passport, issued before 2003. They didn’t look like militias and tankers - they were also dressed in the same shape, they had helmophones on their heads, adopted in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Moreover, the white circles that hid the number of the unit were drawn on the side doors of the Urals, and the DPR flag was drawn, and next to the post lay the box from the Sukhpaik forces of the Russian Federation, however, the DPR militias were not issued, one of them asked for a passage of a taxi driver to bring food from the store.
According to the negotiations of the fighters, it was clear that they had an order not to settle for a long time at this point: “We will retire today, and then there will be rear,” one of them said, advising the New Times to return to Mariupol: “Do you have parents? Think about them: we are not going to bomb the city, and we have nothing to do, but that these (Ukrainians are the New Times) will do when departure, no one knows. ”
