The most stolen car brands in Moscow in the first half of 2014 were VAZ, Toyota, Mazda and Mitsubishi, writes the Kommersant newspaper on Friday, September 5, which has police data at its disposal.

The leader among thefts in Moscow remains VAZ, followed by Toyota, which for the first time since 2012 overtook Mazda in third place. In fifth place, after Mitsubishi, is BMW, which in 2013 was in ninth place in terms of the number of thefts.

In just six months of 2014, according to the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department (MUR), about 4,970 crimes related to the illegal seizure of vehicles were recorded in Moscow, of which 85% were thefts, 12.6% were thefts, 1.2% were robberies, 0.7% - robberies.

At the same time, the MUR claims that the total number of such crimes in the city is decreasing: for the entire 2013, more than 11,400 cars were stolen in the capital. At the same time, as the police note, “the results of work in the field of combating the criminal auto business indicate that the operational situation remains difficult.”

Thieves, according to police data, actively steal even construction equipment, with the most popular being KamAZ trucks (49), as well as JBC excavators and loaders (23).

In total, as the MUR notes, over six months the police discovered and detained about 2,600 vehicles. 962 of them were previously stolen in Moscow, 1,600 in other regions.
