"Rostec" negotiations on the combination of the capabilities of GLONASS and Chinese Beidou

The Rostec State Corporation negotiates with the Chinese Electronic Technology Corporation (CETC) and the Chinese Corporation of aerospace science and industry (CASIC) on the joint development of satellite navigation technologies that combine the capabilities of GLONASS and the Chinese Beidou system. This was stated in Beijing by the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov, ITAR-TASS reports.

GLONASS and Beidou navigation systems will be able to be complementary to each other, Vice-Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said earlier. According to him, they go very well with each other.

"Due to the specifics of our systems and the location of satellites, we do not have competition in the northern hemisphere, especially in the northern latitudes, the Chinese People’s Republic creates a satellite system, an orbital group, south, and therefore there will be a very good combination of two systems, they will be able to complement each other," Rogozin noted.

Beidou is a regional Chinese satellite navigation system. Includes 16 satellites, provides the determination of geographical coordinates in China and in neighboring countries. China intends to make it global in the future and bring the number of satellites to 35.

GLONASS is now ensured by a group of 28 satellites.

Recall that on the basis of the conflict of Russia and the USA regarding the situation in Ukraine, Roscosmos has suspended 11 American GPS global positioning systems in Russia since June. At the same time, experts assured that the power outage would only lead to a certain increase in the error in determining the location that is inconspicuous for ordinary users.
