Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that Vladimir Putin wants to destroy Ukraine and recreate the USSR. According to Yatsenyuk, NATO is the only opportunity to protect the country, although he does not expect a quick membership in the Alliance.

Yatsenyuk spoke in Kyiv at a meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES). “We are still at war, and the main aggressor is the Russian Federation,” Reuters quoted the statement as Prime Minister. In the messages of Russian agencies, this phrase is not mentioned. According to Yatsenyuk, Putin's goal in the east of Ukraine is "another frozen conflict." "Russia is a threat to the world order and security throughout Europe," said the head of the government of Ukraine.

In the circumstances in the east of the country, NATO is "the only opportunity to protect Ukraine," Yatsenyuk said. At the same time, he noted that in the near future the country does not hoped to become a member of the alliance. He noted that "not all NATO members are satisfied with such a position," and "in the short term NATO is not ready to accept Ukraine."

He also commented on the decision to postpone the application of the Association Agreement with the European Union. This will give Ukraine time to prepare: "The EU opens its markets for us, and we do not completely open our own for goods from the EU. This period, which is given to us, will allow Ukraine to prepare and carry out reforms," ​​the prime minister said. At the same time, he assured: as soon as the Association Agreement is ratified by the parliaments of Ukraine and the EU, "the government and the president will introduce every word from this agreement."

The prime minister recalled that the country is still experiencing difficulties in accumulating enough gas for the normal passage of the autumn-winter season. “In our storage facilities up to 17 billion cubic meters, this is not enough to live the winter, but enough not to freeze,” Yatsenyuk said.

The main domestic political statement was that Yatsenyuk will go to the Ukrainian parliament separately from the Petro Poroshenko bloc. The president of the country is currently not "his" faction in the Rada. "We had to go to the polls with the president, the Petro Poroshenko bloc - this did not satisfy me. We are in different camps, but are united by reforms for the sake of changes," Yatsenyuk said.
