Independence referendum takes place in Scotland

In Scotland, at 7.00 local time (at 10.00 in Moscow), a referendum on independence began. According to RBC, within 15 hours (sections will be closed at 22.00 local time) residents will decide on the answer to the question of whether they want to be further in the UK.

According to the BBC, a total of 4,285,323 voters are registered in the region. Publishing polls show that the turnout during voting will be quite high.

The 15-hour referendum time is explained by fears that in some areas of Scotland there will be bad weather and people will not have time to vote. In part of the settlements of the urn for a referendum, helicopters and boats will be directed.

According to the results of the referendum, the results of 32 constituencies will be sent to Edinburgh. In the Highland Center in the suburbs of the Scottish capital, the head of the election commission Mary Piltkaytli must announce them on Friday in the morning.

The British Prime Minister David Cameron, who has been campaigning for the preservation of Scotland in the UK for the last few days, said on the eve of the vote that he would not resign if the residents of the region will vote for independence.

Publishing polls on the eve of the referendum showed a small advantage of opponents of independence.

If most residents of Scotland answer the referendum question positively, then on March 24, 2016 this region will become independent.

Scotland and England are connected by the Act of the Union of 1707 on the creation of the Kingdom of Great Britain. The legislative basis for the discrepancy of subjects can be considered an act of Scotland from 1998. In particular, it enshrines a number of provisions that expand the autonomy of the region - for example, the establishment of their own parliament.
