My father Arthur Yakovlevich Bush was born in Riga in 1903 and was baptized as Arthur Edward Bush. After the death of his parents, he moved to the city of Valmier, where in 1917 he began to work as a telegraph operator and entered the party and young circle, led by Bolshevik Robert Dreja. In early 1918, during the German occupation, Arthur joined the 8th Valmier Regiment of the Red Latvian shooters and was admitted to the Communist Party.

In the ranks of the first regular division of the Red Army - the Latvian division - he participated in the battles for the Kakhovsky bridgehead, in the assault on Perekop and in battles to liberate the Crimea. After demobilization, the communist A. Bush, of course, could not return to Latvia and in 1922 entered the Rabfak of the Timiryazevsky Agricultural Academy in Moscow, which he graduated in 1930.

During his studies and after its completion, A. Bush worked under the leadership of academician V.R. Williams, conducted soil examinations in Birobidzhan, in the Oka Valley and in many areas of the European part of Russia. In 1935, he defended his thesis and began to help V.R. Williams in the organization of the soil-agronomic Museum of TSHA, whose first director was. Arthur Bush publishes numerous articles in the scientific press, works as deputy chief editor of the "Agricultural Encyclopedia", in the People's Commissariat of Education, prepares developments for the State Planning Commission, collects material for a doctoral dissertation.

The fruitful creative activity of a young scientist was cut off in December 1937, when a campaign began to exterminate the Red Latvian shooters. On a false denunciation, he was arrested and in February 1938 he was shot at the Butovo training ground. It is noteworthy that during rehabilitation in 1956, the investigator noted that, according to A. Bush, not a single person was arrested!

My father had five children: four daughters and one son. All of them became scientists, defended the dissertations and worked fruitfully in science.
