
Representatives of the OSCE observation mission fell under the shelling of militants in the Lugansk region.According to the press center of the Operational Command "North" on its Facebook, this happened on September 23, when terrorists fired at the positions of the ATO forces.
"The situation in the Luhansk region remains difficult. Yesterday during the day, the militants fired at the troops of the Operational Command" North "five times, once from mortars, four from a large -caliber," the report said.
"During one of the shelling of the unit guarding the bridge across the Seversky Donets River, representatives of the OSCE were fired, who were also at the place of shelling during the incident. In order to maintain the life and health of personnel and representatives of the mission, military personnel opened fire in response," the press center said.
Throughout the night, there were no shelling in the areas of the tasks of the troops of the Operational Command of the North. “According to the results of the day, there are no losses among personnel and technology,” the report said.
"Military personnel continue to hold positions, protect the basic camps, checkpoints, platoon strongholds, increase efforts on engineering equipment, providing material reserves, food, medical property and combustible," the press center concluded.
On September 22, the OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zaner said that the organization plans to increase the number of observers in Ukraine more than six times. “We really want to make a contribution, as far as possible to stabilize the ceasefire and discharge the crisis,” he said, noting that the number of OSCE employees in the conflict zone will be brought to 500. At present, about 80 observers from the organization are in Ukraine.
In addition, Zaner stated that in general, the truce is apparently respected, but the OSCE “deeply condemns” existing violations. He also warned the side of the conflict against attempts to use a truce in selfish interests, emphasizing that this could lead to its end.
“This truce cannot be an occasion to attempts to get advantages, because in this case everything will be disrupted,” the general secretary warned.
