The State Duma in the second and third final readings adopted a law on limiting 20 percent of the maximum possible share of foreign shareholders in the capital of the Russian media. It is reported by RIA "Novosti". The law also prohibits to act by media founders to foreign individuals and legal entities, stateless persons and Russians with second citizenship.

At the meeting, deputies approved an amendment, according to which the law will not apply to foreign shareholders with shares in the media formed under international agreements. Thus, the law will not affect the television and radio company "Mir" and the television and radio company of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, explained the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Leonid Levin.

At the same time, deputies refused to make an exception for the television and educational orientation television channels, which insisted in the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.

The introduced restrictions apply to all media projects that have a license of the media, including printed and online publications. The current version of the Media Law restricts a foreign part to 50 percent - and only for television and radio channels.

Amendments to the law on the media, according to the plan of their authors, will enter into force on January 1, 2016. By February 15, 2017, the media will have to transfer new documents to Roskomnadzor about owners and founders. If the department does not receive these papers on time, the courts will have the right to close the media.

One of the authors of the document, Zhirinovets Vadim Money, said, representing the bill that some “foreign agents” and businessmen “actively shout” about censorship and attack on foreign capital. At the same time, Money noted, "the Cold War, namely the informational one, which has now unfolded against the Russian Federation, dictates certain laws to us and forces us to certain actions."

They were supported by the deputy head of the unicorn faction Sergey Zheleznyak.
