Fedor Cherenkov died

In Moscow, in the 56th year of his life, the former Spartak midfielder and the USSR national team Fedor Cherenkov, Sport-Express reports with reference to the president of the Spartak Academy Sergei Rodionov.

According to preliminary data, the cause of death was the brain tumor. Cherenkov died on October 4 at 4 a.m.

Fedor Cherenkov began playing football in the team of the district ZhEK. Since 1969 he played for the Kuntsevo SK, two years later he moved to the Spartak football school. After its completion, at the invitation of the founder of Spartak, Nikolai Starostin, since 1977, played in an arc at the Red-White, then moved to the main team.

During the game in Spartak, Chelenkov three times became the champion of the USSR (in 1979, 1987 and 1989), in 1993 he became the champion of Russia. As part of the USSR national team, the football player played 34 matches in which he scored 12 goals.

In total, during his career as a football player, Cherenkov spent 542 matches, scored 138 goals, made 136 assists. In 1994, he held a farewell match, to which 35 thousand spectators came.

Cherenkov is a record holder for the number of games held for the Moscow Spartak - 515. His name was named after the football academy of the capital's club.

The owner of the Moscow Spartak Leonid Fedun said that one of the stands of the new stadium of the metropolitan club will be named after Cherenkov, R-Sport reports. According to him, a monument and memorial mosaics will be erected on this rostrum.
