The Ministry of Justice requires the elimination of the "Memorial"

The Ministry of Justice appealed to the Supreme Court with a claim for the liquidation of the All-Russian Public Organization "Russian Historical, Educational, Charity and Human Rights Society" Memorial ".

“The statement of claim was received on the court on September 24, the next day the court accepted it for production. The lawsuit on the claim will be held on November 13, ” RIA Novosti was told in court.

The reason for the filing of the claim for the liquidation of the "memorial" has not yet been reported.

The Memorial Society was established in 1989. The main activities of the Memorial are the study of the history of political repression in the USSR, the rehabilitation and perpetuating of the memory of their victims, educational and human rights activities. The Memorial contains archives of materials on the history of repression and dissent in the USSR.

The “Memorial” prepared the reference publications “Who led the NKVD: 1934–1941”, “The system of forced labor camps in the USSR”, the electronic album “Victims of political terror in the USSR”.

In the framework of human rights work, Memorial is, in particular, by the study of violations of human rights and the norms of international humanitarian law in the zones of mass conflicts, the provision of legal assistance to refugees and forced immigrants. In 2014, Memorial published a list of political prisoners in Russia, which included dozens of Russians.
