1944 Tuva became part of the USSR

70 years ago, on October 11, 1944, the formally independent Tuva People's Republic was incorporated into the USSR as the Tuva Autonomous Region within the RSFSR by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet. In this capacity, Tuva, previously a protectorate of the Russian Empire called the Uryankhai region, was not recognized by China, which considered Tuva to be part of its territory. Soviet troops were on the territory of the TPR, and the Russian population of Tuva was mobilized into the Red Army back in 1941. Now the mobilization has affected the entire population of Tuva.
