The dollar exchange rate during the trade day on Monday, October 13, for the first time in the history of the tender on the Moscow Exchange, exceeded 40.5 rubles, reports Interfax .
The exchange rate of the euro also updated the historical maximum, jumping up to 51.41 rubles. During the auction, the exchange rate of the American currency ranged from 40.2 to 40.5 rubles, European - from 50.1 to 51.41 rubles.
The ruble updated historical minimums for the dollar and euro back in the morning, but continued to weaken in the evening.
Earlier on October 13, the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina, during a speech in the State Duma Budget Committee, said that the regulator fully controls the situation. She added that over the past ten days, the Central Bank has sold about $ 6 billion to stabilize the exchange rate and is not going to change plans on the way to a free floating ruble rate since 2015.
Speaking about the possible fixation of the ruble exchange rate, the Chairman of the Central Bank noted that such an idea is counterproductive, since the cost of fixing the course will be a waste of gold and foreign exchange reserves in a short time. Last Friday, October 10, with such a proposal (to fix the exchange rate at a reasonable level for several years) was made by the adviser of the President of the Russian Federation Sergey Glazyev.
Since the beginning of October, the ruble has sharply weakened in relation to the main world currencies: the dollar exchange rate in the Russian Federation was fixed above 40 rubles, and the euro - above 51 rubles. Analysts associate the weakening of the Russian currency primarily with decreasing oil quotes: since the beginning of October, world prices for WTI and Brent for the first time in several years have fallen below $ 90 per barrel. On the morning of October 13, it was reported that during trading in London, Brent quotes fell to $ 87 per barrel, that is, a minimum in four years.
