
Today, October 14, at a press conference in Moscow, the Long List of the 2014 Debut Independent Literary Prize was announced.
The award is awarded for works created in Russian by writers aged not older than 35 years.
The long list includes 15 books in the category “Big Prose”, 28 - in the category “Small prose”, 29 - in the category “Poetry”, 10 - in the category “Drama” and 18 - in the category “essays”. The competition in the “Fiction” nomination is not held this year.
“The 2014 competition was held during the growth of geopolitical tension, in months of large shocks and human tragedies. - It is said in the commentary on the Prize website. - Nevertheless, artistry for experts was more important than relevance. Almost nothing of the "hot" documentary in the "long list" has entered. "
It is also noted in the commentary that “if in previous years the main competitive stream came from megalopolises, then in 2014 manuscripts sent to the“ debut ”from Russian villages, villages and small cities were noticeably added.
The jury of the 2014 Debut Award includes Pavel Basinsky (chairman), Yuri Buida, Alexander Kabanov, Vladimir Novikov, and also for the first time in the history of the prize-Laureate of Debuta 2008, Yaroslav Pulinovich.
The short list of the prize will be announced in mid -November, the awarding ceremony of the laureates will be held on December 11.
