By the decision of the Russian Oscar Committee, Leviathan was nominated from Russia to the Oscar Award in the category of the best film in a foreign language. “We decided to use the model used by the American film distributor, Sony Classics . - explains the general director of A Company Russia Alexander Van Dulmen. - “Leviathan” will be released in February 2015, when the so -called “Season of Awards” traditionally starts, including the Oscar Award. ”

Germany, South Korea and Denmark also decided to follow this release strategy and eventually announced new dates for the release of Leviathan.

The world premiere of Leviathan took place at the 67th Cannes International Film Festival, where the picture was awarded a prize for the best script. In North America, the film was first shown on September 10 at the Toronto Film Festival. In the North American rental, Sony Classics will release Leviathan in December 2014. In September, it was reported that in Russia the picture will be released on November 13.
