Daniil Konstantinov released under amnesty

On October 16, the Chertanovsky District Court of Moscow found the leader of the Moscow Defense League, Daniil Konstantinov, guilty of hooliganism and sentenced him to three years in prison. Konstantinov was released in the courtroom under an amnesty. Correspondent of the radio station “Echo of Moscow” Ilya Rozhdestvensky talks about this.

The Court reports the charge against Konstantinov from murder to hooliganism, finding it proven that on December 3, 2011, Konstantinov “inflicted several blows with his hands and feet” on Alexey Temnikov, and also “threatened him with an object similar to a knife.” At the same time, the court did not find confirmation of the prosecution’s version that Konstantinov stabbed Temnikov. The prosecutor demanded that the defendant be sentenced to ten years in prison.

reclassified Konstantinov, who was arrested in March 2012, in turn, claimed that he was not at the crime scene at all. The court considered the testimony of defense witnesses confirming his alibi unreliable. Previously, Konstantinova stated that a criminal case was opened after he refused to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The Memorial Human Rights Center recognized Konstantinov as a political prisoner.

The amnesty, announced in December 2013 in honor of the twenty-year anniversary of the Russian Constitution, applies, among others, to those convicted under Articles 213 (hooliganism) and 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (mass riots).
