According to the festival’s website , the picture was awarded the main award as “Original and smart cinema ... A piercing film that tells the tragic story of the conflict between a person and a corrupt system in a small Russian city.”
This year, Leviathan won a prize for the best script at the 67th Cannes festival, was recognized as the best film of the Munich Film Festival and was nominated for the Oscar in the category of the Best Foreign Language. The film will be released in Russian rental in February 2015.
In the competition of full-length debuts, the first prize received the film “Tribes” (Ukraine) Miroslav Sloshpitsky , who in May became the laureate of “Critics Week” in Cannes and won the Grand Prix of the Mirror festival.
The winner of the documentary contest in London was the film “Silved Water” (Syria-France) of Mohammed and Viam Bedirkhan. The prize in the “Best British Debut” category was received by actress Samin Dzhabin Ahmed for a role in the film by Daniel Wulf “Catch Me Daddy” .
