The Civil Platform party intends to return to an active policy and declare its new program, with which it will go to the State Duma in 2016, and its founder billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov can again be the party leader. This was reported by Izvestia with reference to the chairman of the Political Committee of the Party of Rifat Shaikhutdinov.
“Yes, maybe at any time. I think that this will be decided in 2016, when we will understand how we go to the State Duma elections,” Shaykhutdinov said, answering the question of whether Prokhorov could return to the party leadership.
However, according to the head of the Political Committee of the Civil Platform, Prokhorov first needs to deal with his Western assets, since according to the law it is impossible to participate in political activities with foreign assets. “In my opinion, in some assets he already approached the sale, according to the Brooklyn Nets basketball club, they are already close to the transaction and still in a number of assets,” Shaykhutdinov noted.
The decision on the new party leader will be made at the next meeting of the committee or at the party congress, which may take place in November. According to Shaikhutdinov, the date of the November Congress is still being specified, however, its main task will be to approve the party training program by 2016. "By 2016, we will form a team that will be included in the federal list from the party. And already in 2016 we will form specific public projects with which we will go to the polls," he added.
Prokhorov in the 2012 presidential election took third place with 8 percent of the vote. In 2013, he lost the lead in the “Civil Platform” to his sister Irina, a literary critic, the chief editor of the magazine “New Literary Review”. In the summer of 2014, she decided to leave this post, citing disagreements in the Crimea with regional branches. Last Tuesday, the party officially accepted its resignation.
