The State Duma consolidated the control of the Prosecutor General's Office over the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation
The Prosecutor General's Office will have the right to monitor compliance with the law by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. In the State Duma, the first reading was passed by the presidential law, which speaks directly about this. The current version of the law "On the Prosecutor's Office" says that prosecutors control the activities of government bodies, but the words "Investigative Committee" are not there. Therefore, the RF IC interpreted this in its favor.
In July 2014, President Vladimir Putin decided to put an end to a long-standing dispute between the prosecutor's office and the Investigative Committee, which denied the right of prosecutors to exercise general oversight of its activities.
- The conflict between the Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor General's Office has been going on since the Investigative Committee was made an independent agency in 2011. Prior to this, investigators worked as part of the Prosecutor General's Office.
- The main evidence of the conflict between the departments was the so-called " gambling case ", in which the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation tried to prosecute the prosecutor near Moscow for protecting the gambling business, and the Prosecutor General's Office refused to approve the cases.
