The Echo of Moscow radio station warned of an unscheduled check of fire safety. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will hold it at the request of the prosecutor's office of the Central Administrative District of Moscow. The audit will begin on October 22 and will take place within 20 business days, the document published on the radio station website said.
The Moscow prosecutor’s office told Interfax that an unnamed Muscovite was closed on fire safety in the walls of the radio station.
The deputy chief editor of the radio station, Sergei Buntman, said that he was surprised by a letter from the Ministry of Emergencies: “Of course, questions arise, why suddenly it was decided to conduct an unscheduled audit of“ Echo of Moscow ”, why the prosecutor’s office is the initiator, and whether only us will check or this will affect other tenants of the building that we occupy.”
Buntman noted that the editors are not related to fire safety issues: "This is not our field of activity, all this is under the jurisdiction of the Director General of the radio station."
The other day, Echo officers reported that they were “promised problems” if they broadcast an interview with the opposition Alexei Navalny. The policy placed under house arrest was visited by editor -in -chief Alexei Venediktov and his assistant Olesya Ryabtseva.
Mikhail Lesin, Chairman of the Board of the Gazprom-Media holding holding, which owns 66% of the shares of Echo of Moscow, demanded not to put an interview from the heads of the radio station.
“The interview will not work, and if it goes, there will be problems,” the assistant Venediktova quoted Lesin's words. According to Ryabtseva, about the problems that Lesin threatened, "it remains only to guess: whether the riot police will be included in the editorial office, whether the switch will be turned off and the radio station will be replaced, or they will simply mix the chief editor ..."
In the blog entry, which was published on October 19, it was noted: “As you know, the interview of Navalny turned out. And as you can see, the Echo did not increase problems. Probably because the hero of the interview said something that seemed pleasant, or, on the contrary, said nothing that it might seem bad.”
