The issue of extending Savchenko’s arrest is being considered behind closed doors

The Moscow Basmanny Court closed the hearing on the investigation's petition to extend the measure of restraint for the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, Kasparov.Ru reports.

The investigation asked to hold the meeting behind closed doors without the participation of journalists and other listeners, since the protocols of interrogation of the defendants in the criminal case who are in Ukraine will be announced at the hearing.

The hearings are taking place without the participation of Savchenko, who is undergoing an inpatient psychological and psychiatric examination at the Serbsky Center for Social and Forensic Psychiatry.

31-year-old pilot Nadezhda Savchenko fought in eastern Ukraine as part of the Aidar volunteer battalion and in June was captured by militants near the town of Shchastya, Luhansk region. On July 8, it became known that she was being held in the Voronezh pre-trial detention center. In Russia, she was charged with aiding and abetting the murder. Savchenko does not admit guilt and states that she was abducted from the territory of Ukraine.

On July 2, the Novousmansky District Court chose Savchenko as a preventive measure in the form of detention. This measure was confirmed by the Voronezh Regional Court. At the end of August, the arrest period was extended until October 30. In early September, there were reports that Savchenko was included in the list for the exchange of prisoners between the Ukrainian security forces and the militants of the DPR, but this information was not confirmed.

On October 10, Savchenko was sent to the Serbsky Center for an inpatient psychiatric examination. The pilot was sent to Moscow for examination by decision of the Soviet District Court of Voronezh on August 27 . Savchenko then filed an application in which she refused to communicate with doctors during the examination, noting its illegality.
