The HRC asks to intervene in the case of a Russian human rights activist sent from Belarus

The Human Rights Council asks to provide assistance to human rights activist Elena Toncacheva, who faces an expulsion from Belarus, where she lives and works.

"The chairman of the Presidential of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society and human rights, Mikhail Fedotov addressed the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with an appeal to provide urgent support to the Russian civilian, human rights activist Elena Toncacheva, who is threatened with expulsion from the Republic of Belarus, where she has been constantly living for more than ten years," the statement said on the Special website .

On October 30, a residence permit was canceled at Toncacheva, motivating this decision by the fact that she committed administrative offenses, without observing the rules of the road - exceeded the speed on the roads. "The obvious inadequacy of the sanctions applied by the authorities of the Republic of Belarus for an insignificant offense forces us to assume that human rights activity is a real motive for the expulsion of a Russian citizen," the anti -aircraft reference is said. The decision on the expulsion procedure will be considered on November 5.

As the Interfax recalls, Toncacheva provided legal assistance to detained and arrested in administrative and criminal cases, instituted against manifestants, dissatisfied with the results of the presidential election in December 2010. Recently, the human rights activist has dealt with the problems of accessing citizens to the information of state bodies.
