Leviathan won Abu Dhabin

The main prize of the VIII International Film Festival in Abu Dhabi-“Black Pearl”-was awarded to the film by Andrei Zvyagintsev “Leviathan”.

The prize for the best actor for his role in Leviathan was awarded to Andrei Serebryakov, according to the official website of the festival.

“We are very happy about this award, and the fact that this year in Abu Dhabi two Russian films were among the winners at once-an unconditional evidence of the victory of our cinema,” said RIA Novosti, the producer of the film Leviathan Alexander Rodnyansky.

This year, Leviathan won a prize for the best script at the 67th Cannes festival, was recognized as the best film of the Munich and London film festivals and was nominated to the Oscar prize in the “Best Foreign Language Film” category. The film will be released in Russian rental in February 2015.

In addition, another Russian film was awarded with a special prize of the jury in Abu Dhabi-“Test” by Alexander Kotta.

Rodnyansky noted that the invitation of Leviathan and Testing to many international film festivals this year "is an obvious recognition of the quality of the films, their ability to cross the boundaries of the Russian -speaking world and fit into the world cinematic context."
