In the first round of the presidential elections, Romania is the leader Victor Pont

Romania Prime Minister Viktor Pont, according to preliminary data, is the leader in the first round of the presidential election, held in the country the day before, November 2. The second place is occupied by his main rival - the mayor of Sibuu Klaus Johannis.

According to the results of the counting of 91.33% of the vote, Pontus gains 40.01% of the vote, Johannis - 30.54%, RomaniatV reports with reference to the official data of the Central Election Bureau of the country.

Earlier it was reported that Pontus also leads according to the ec -regulations (Exit Poll - a survey of the voting at the exit from the polling stations). Supporters of the Ponte from the Social Democrats also stated that, according to their estimates conducted with the help of SMS messages, 40.51% of voters voted for the current Prime Minister, while his rival Johannis was only 29.52%, the Romanian television channel Antena 3 reports.

However, the indisputable advantage of Ponte is far away. To win the first round, candidates need to dial 50% plus one vote. If no one succeeds, the second round will be appointed, which will be held on November 16.

In total, 14 candidates apply for the post of new head of state. The closest rivals of Ponte and Johannis are far from them.

Thus, the chairman of Senate Kalin Popescu-Terichan is gaining 5.46% of the vote, the ex-minister of tourism Elena Udi is still gaining 5.17%, the former Minister of Justice of Romania Monica Makovya with 4.51% of the vote. The remaining candidates have from 0.08% to 3.94% of the vote.

Thus, as expected, Pontus and Johannis will meet in the second round of the presidential election in a personal fight. However, the result of voting may be influenced by the one who will support supporters of the candidates who have not gone out into the second round.

The winner of the election will replace the current president Trajan Basescu, who has been in power from December 20, 2004. Reuters notes that standing at the head of the Romania government, Pontent often conflict with the departing head of state.
