On October 25, a rally in defense of education was held on Lermontov Square. This is the second meeting dedicated to this topic. The action took place in other cities as well. Systemic problems in education have united a variety of political forces - from the Left Front to Yabloko. Successive speakers spoke about illegal mergers of schools, about the fact that education is becoming paid, that education is not a commodity. There was a lot of talk about the extinction (if not the extermination) of non-standard schools - correctional schools, for children with deviant behavior, home-schooling schools, schools for gifted children... There were also a lot of specifics - where officials lie, how exactly illegal mergers are going on, there were also stories of victories over bureaucratic arbitrariness.
The organizers and participants talked not only about street actions, in my speech I mentioned that on November 14, the Dorogomilovsky Court will hold a hearing on the lawsuit against the Department of Education about the illegality of the reorganization of the Intellectual boarding school. Among the rally participants were not only political activists and teachers, but also parents with children. A group of schoolchildren from Intellectual created posters and slogans that, with their creativity, were reminiscent of the “snow revolution.” Perhaps the most radical, but also the most fair slogan was “Kalina resign!” About 400 people came to the rally. And although the traditional slogans of political actions - “We will come again” and “We are the power here” - were not heard, they were clearly felt in the mood of the people.
