The Latvian director Alvis Hermanis disseminated a statement in which he accused the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, who attended his play “Shukshin's Stories” at the Moscow Theater of Nations, in manipulation by the name of Vasily Shukshin.

Hermanis's statement is given by the Delfi portal. After the performance, Putin, according to the director, uttered "a propaganda speech in which he tried to make his ideological ally the writer Vasily Shukshin, who has long been no longer alive and who does not have the opportunity to resist this manipulation."

“Knowing the biography and work of Shushin well, I strongly doubt that the writer would become an ally of Putin if he lived to the events of our days.
