Two trains collided in Shalinsky district

Yesterday morning at the Sabik station (74 km from Pervouralsk) of the Sverdlovsk Railway (SvZhD), a collision occurred between passenger train No. 99 “Vladivostok - Moscow” and a freight locomotive. As a result of the emergency, according to the press service of Sverdlovsk Railways, no one was injured, but traffic on the Sabik-Sarga railway section was paralyzed for almost the entire day. Among the considered versions of what happened: a technical malfunction, violations committed by the locomotive crew or station employees.

The side collision of train No. 99 “Vladivostok - Moscow”, which carried 280 passengers, with a freight locomotive occurred early in the morning at the switch exit of the Sabik station. The impact derailed two passenger train baggage cars and a freight train locomotive. According to Sverdlovsk Railways, no one was injured as a result of the emergency. “All passengers of train No. 99 were interviewed by doctors; no one sought medical help,” the Sverdlovsk Railway said in a statement.

Employees of the line department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, an investigative and operational group, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and psychologists went to the scene of the incident. The emergency at the Sabik station led to a stop in traffic on the “northern route” of the Trans-Siberian Railway between Perm and Yekaterinburg in both directions for 10 hours. To restore it, special trains from Kuzino and Yekaterinburg-Sortirovochny stations were sent. As a result, train No. 99 was bypassed. A team of medical workers from the Road Hospital at the Yekaterinburg-Pasazhirsky station will accompany the train to Perm.

Due to the accident, the routes of trains No. 109 “Novy Urengoy - Moscow” were changed, which will travel through Kuzino, presumably delayed for 8 hours, and No. 44 “Moscow - Khabarovsk”, which was returned to Perm (from Sarga) to go along the bypass route Chusovskaya - Nizhny Tagil - Yekaterinburg with a 13-hour delay on the way. To deliver passengers of four Ekaterinburg-Shalya electric trains on the Sarga-Sabik section, a bus service was used.

An investigation into the railway accident is underway. According to the senior assistant to the head of the Ural Investigation Department for Transport, Natalya Gunkina, at the moment there are three main versions of what happened: a technical malfunction, violations committed by members of the locomotive crew or station employees who regulated traffic. According to one of the versions voiced by the police, shunting work was underway at the station at the time of the emergency and the freight train was moving in reverse.
