Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Prosecutor's Office of the Eastern District of New York, with the assistance of the US Ministry of Justice, began an investigation against the co-founder of the Gunvor trader Gennady Timchenko.
According to the sources of the publication, the purpose of the investigation is to verify the legality of financial transactions carried out through American banks. One of the sources clarifies that the investigation, in particular, studies the financing of oil purchase transactions from Rosneft.
“Unfortunately or happiness, The Wall Street Journal does not contain any specific facts confirming the accusations. Therefore, there is no reason to polemicize with this material,” said Timchenko, Anton Kurevin.
"We can only call for extreme caution in relation to the presented position, especially given the political context of the Russian business in the American media," he said. In addition, the representative of Timchenko suggested that the statements of the investigation against Timchenko "may be associated with the desire of the United States to expand the EU sanctions in relation to the Russian Federation."
