
Former mayor of Astrakhan received 10 years in prison
The Kirovsky District Court of Astrakhan on November 5 sentenced the departed from his post to the mayor Mikhail Stolyarov - 10 years in prison and 500 million rubles of a fine.
The mayor was detained a year ago when receiving a bribe of 10 million rubles. During the investigation, it turned out that Stolyarov demanded 25 percent of the share in the businessman Konstantin Khvalyk in business for providing a land plot for the construction of the crematorium by the detention of Stolyarov revealed a curious picture in the Astrakhan administration: none of the four vice-mayors could become acting, since they all had a criminal record.
The victory of Stolyarov in the mayor’s elections two years ago caused a storm of protests in Astrakhan itself and abroad due to suspicions of numerous falsifications. The rival of Stolyarova, the head of the regional branch of the Fair Russia party, Oleg Shein, held a multi -day hunger strike in protest.
On Wednesday, in connection with the announcement of the sentence to Stolyarov, the State Duma deputy from the Astrakhan region Oleg Shein wrote in his LiveJournal :
"I do not have a sense of gloating. There is even some regret. I am still raised in Russian literature - mercy to the fallen, etc. Although it is not easy to regret a person who has three times raised a fee in kindergartens who expelled the premises of the disabled and canceled the free food of children in schools. And at the same time actively personally enriched."
