CNN leaves Russia

Until December 31, 2014, the American news television channel will stop broadcasting in Russian cable networks.

Roskomnadzor requires foreign channels to obtain a broadcast license. The CNN channel has long applied for a license, but still has not received it. The broadcast continued on the basis of a letter from the television company itself, in which it indicated that it was in the process of obtaining permission.

The representative of Roskomnadzor Vadim Ampelonsky told TASS that his department was not related to the situation. “The reasons for the cessation of broadcasting of the channel need to be asked by CNN shareholders,” he said.

CNN has been broadcast in Russia since the beginning of the 1990s. In recent years, only cable networks broadcast it. Earlier, broadcasting in Russia due to the restriction of foreigners in the capital of television and radio companies stopped the Voice of America , Radio Liberty , International French Radio, as well as the Russian BBC and German Wave.
