Timchenko: The sanctions were not imposed against me, but against Putin

Russian billionaire Gennady Timchenko has not yet intended to challenge them in European ships, RIA Novosti has not yet intended to dispute them. He considers it useless to go to court, since this is a political decision directed against President Vladimir Putin.

To the journalist’s remark that the filing of the claim may be an image decision, Timchenko said that the sanctions do not bother him.

On October 28, Gazprom Neft challenged the sanctions against the company in the European Union . On October 24, Sberbank, Vnesheconombank and VTB group applied to the Court of the European Union with similar claims.

On October 9, Rosneft filed a lawsuit against the European Council , in which it requires canceling decisions that introduce restrictions on attracting funds in capital markets. Businessman Arkady Rotenberg, in respect of whom it was decided on visa sanctions and freezing assets, filed a similar lawsuit on October 10.

On November 6, WSJ reported that the US prosecutor’s office and the US Ministry of Justice launched an investigation against Timchenko and Gunvor. Investigators suspect Timchenko that he could conduct funds allegedly related to corruption transactions in Russia through the financial system. Later WSJ published amendments to an article on the investigation against Timchenko: the publication noted that Timchenko was no longer a Gunvor shareholder and reduced the assessment of his condition.

The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov connected the accusations against Timchenko with the "personified attacks" on Putin . The company of Timchenko Volga Group reports that the businessman "does not know regarding the investigation conducted by the prosecutor's office and other US investigative bodies."

After the publication in the WSJ newspaper The New York Times, citing a source in American law enforcement agencies, said Timchenko and Gunvor are in the field of view of law enforcement officers in the framework of the investigation in 2011 for money laundering and oil trade. According to the newspaper, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn (Eastern District of New York) and FBI agents are conducting the case.
